Deirdre Maultsaid made her startling, textured

contribution to our understanding of how writer

and mother co-exist, in her essay

"The sun knows what it does",

in the new 2008 book, Double Lives: Writing and Motherhood.

The essay, on travels in Spain and Portugal,

takes up an argument about the sun,

with Canadian poet Erin Moure

and Portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa.

The book is well-reviewed in the Globe and Mail, the Ottawa Citizen,

and the Montreal Gazette.
