Deirdre Maultsaid is working to become a master of surprise reversals and ambivalent endings.
She has won writing contests from Prairie Fire and Rippleeffect Press. She has been published in arts-informed, Canadian Women's Studies, the Danforth Review, Other Voices, Moxie, Prairie Fire, the Southern Cross Review, anthologies by Rippleeffect Press and Rowan Books, and in Double Lives, a well-reviewed anthology of women writers, from McGill University Press.

Deirdre Maultsaid ha publicado cuentos en espaņol en The Barcelona Review, The Southern Cross Review, y Ariadna. The composer Leila Lustig, has set the poem "Washerwomen, Blessings" to music for piano and voices.

Deirdre has spoken at interprofessional healthcare conferences on the ways that creative writing can teach, amplify and beautify experience, and turn tragedy and trauma into renewal. She says, “The personal and particular nature of stories, the myths, the motifs, the lyricism, dreams, surprises, fragments, dialogue, characters, atmosphere, tone, the symbols, the menace, the joy, the sadness, the sheer physical, magical and emotional experience of stories confer meaning on lived experience.”

She works for the Commonwealth of Learning, as a writing trainer.
